Mary obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine, with a concentration in American Public Law. She gained legal administration and research experience as a legal assistant to a corporate/business, litigation and estate-planning attorney. Mary obtained a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach, where she was recognized as Graduated Student of the Year and worked as a teaching and research assistant to university professors. In 2013, she obtained her Paralegal Certificate from University of California, Irvine.

Mary is an Orange County native. She was previously a Title I Tutor for the Orange County Department of Education, volunteered as an Orange County Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and served as the Director of Research and Development for the youth development nonprofit Team Kids. She enjoys running, yoga, volunteering for Second Harvest Food Bank and traveling with her husband.
